The main reason I'm famous: Writing history books that don't make you drop dead of boredom.

Career highlights: I spent many years writing American history textbooks—all the while filling fat files with the amazing stories and surprising quotes that I wasn't allowed to put in textbooks. Now I'm using all this great material to write history books that kids will actually want to read.

Something most people don't know about me: Once spent an entire two-week vacation visiting historical sites from the life and adventures of Benedict Arnold—and I'm proud of it!
